I don't want to run iTunes at all, so that eliminates some of the options like Bitperfect.
So if a player can't support 64-bit Audio Units or VST plugins, it's a deal breaker for me. the Tidal app, you need a phone that is capable of bit-perfect output from. To me, the SQ gains you get from running good parametric EQ are huge and 1000 times more than any player app can offer on its own. That is why audiophiles get their bad rep. Media players like Audirvana and Roon have also implemented the core decoder. Worse if these misconceptions are used for marketing of commercial products (Audirvana also guilty).

Of course, few guys discussing fairy dust things in their free time, it’s not a big deal. I myself use BitPerfect to get the sample rate correct for my 44.
Regarding “jitter” in general, I have my approach like this. And, if it somehow does, first thing would be to explain how does it do it, not claim some mythical listening tests without any proof. As you can see, in this concept, “kernel” does not matter (in theory).
